Al-Maqdese for society development organization conducted a legal training on “Women Rights in local and international laws”, the training targeted a group of lawyers and law graduates from different universities as well as a group of participants interested in women rights, moreover the training was held for three day at Al-Maqdese’s office in AL-Ram.
On the first day of the training Mr. Bassam Al-As’ad, Al-Maqdese’s legal advisor, addressed several issues related to women’s rights; he presented on women’s rights within Israeli labor law, women’s rights within International Humanitarian law and the laws protecting women from discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace.
On the second day lecturers presented on the following topics: the right to residence as a human right, the right to residence according to the Israeli law and violence against women. On the third day the participants were introduced to the work of Al-Maqdese’s legal clinic, the legal services it provides and specifically the services it provides to Jerusalemite women in order to alleviate the suffering they are subjected to as a result of Israeli occupation violations in the city such as arrests and violations of social, political and economic rights. The third day also included a general overview of human rights law, international humanitarian law and the international treaties and conventions. At the end of the third day the participants learned in theory the principles and mechanisms of documenting human rights ‘violations.
At the end of the training, Al-Maqdese emphasized the importance of continuing to provide similar awareness raising sessions that address women’s rights in light of the many and continuous violations of their rights especially by the Israeli occupation, Al-Maqdese also granted the participants certificates and thanked them for their active participation in the training.
