On 29/05/2014, Al-Maqdese held the final conference of the project “Provision of civil society organization (CSO) capacity building components regarding blood borne and sex borne diseasese specially HIV/AIDS and related dangerous behaviors”funded by the UNDP and the Global Fund to Fight Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria at the Red Crescent Hall in Al-Bireh and through the video conference in Gaza, with the presence of a number of local and international institutions and representatives from the Jerusalem Governorate , the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the World Health Organization and the Anti-Drugs Police.Where Al-Maqdese,through the UNDP, awarded 10 funding grants of $120,000for 10civil society organizations distributed on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and throughout the conference, the initiatives and the projects of the organizationswere presented and recommendations for the project were discussed.
Mr. Qamar Bukhari- Project Manager of the Global Fund to Fight Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria addressed in his speech the role played by Al-Maqdese in networking amongst organizations in the West Bank and Gaza, and pointed out the important role it plays through MSD Awareness Center, which works on raising the awareness of individuals and organizations regarding the issues of blood-borne and sex borne diseases, especially AIDS, he also thanked the 10 organizations for their great efforts in this project.
Mr. Abdullah Siam – Deputy of the Governor of Jerusalem and Dr. Dia’aHejjyieh – Director of Preventive Medicine / Ministry of Health, pointed out the increasing high percentages of the spread of blood-borne and sex borne diseases in the West Bank and Jerusalem recently. They alsostressed on the need and the importance of awareness raisingin this regards through such programs and projects.
At the end of the conference, the organizations participating in the project were honored, who in turn thanked Al-Maqdese for its efforts in the management of the project.
